Arnold's Poems

Winter
1/16/99

Go proudly snowman while ye may
The Sun will shine another day
And what is now yer proud proboscis
Will soon become yer esophagus
You'll blow yer nose and clear yer throat
And when you shout yer feet will float
In Oklahoma the Sun comes quick
And all that's left will be yer stick
No more to stand erect and proud
So while ye may go - shout out loud

Simple things
31/1/98

The beauty of a halo'd moon
The magic of a night in June
The warmth we feel at Christmas time
The chill we feel at New Years chime
These things are free, for those who care
Pity those with souls so bare
They sleep thru all lifes simple pleasures
Too busy laying up worldly treasures

Oklahoma Winter

Winter time is magic time
The windows covered with frosty rime
A child in awe stares at his name
Written on the window pane

Mom is roasting turkey now
Dad is milking our old cow
Granny in her rocking chair
Brushing out her silver hair

The snowflakes in a magic dance
Big sister dreaming of romance
Little sis wearing mama's shoes
Clomping all around the room

The boy knows come the light of day
He'll go out in the snow to play
Build a fort and rule the yard
Snowballs flung so very hard

Then sweating as tho it's warm
Go to talk to the cow in the barn
Chase the chickens about the pen
Til you hear mom call you to come in.

Granny now is making a rug
You run and give her a great big hug
She's on your side, no need to ask
She'll show you how to do any task

Bed time now, one day older
A little wiser, a little bolder
Mom has done the dishes now
Dad has the news on the radio

A winter day has come and gone
A day of work and a day of fun
All the world is spinning on
On and on and on and on.
